Disappointment for Future Cardinals

Stanford Rowing

“I joined the rowing team freshman year of high school following in the footsteps of my older sister, Emily, who is currently a third year on the Stanford lights team. I started out as a coxswain but soon transitioned to a rower. Throughout high school, I enjoyed training and racing as part of a team and looked forward to rowing in college. During my college search process, Stanford seemed like a dream. Not only did I love the school, but the lightweight team seemed to offer it all. I would be rowing with my older sister as part of a close-knit team with exceptional coaches, great athlete support, and incredible training facilities. I have been looking forward to being a part of the Stanford lights since the moment Coach Bertko called me to tell me I had a recruiting spot. Since then I have been proud to call myself a future Cardinal. But recently, my pride in the university has been lagging. I was looking forward to rowing four years at Stanford, but now it appears I will only be able to row for one. It is disheartening to know that my first year will be my final year of rowing at Stanford.”
